Rebirth

Ljubljana, Slovenia

The stadium made by Slovenian greatest architect, Joze Plecnik, became a Slovenian national disaster regarding cultural heritage. A long and shameful saga continues, but we are here because we care.

The stadium was for almost fifty years a home of the football club Olimpija and for decade a stadium where Slovenian football national team has played their games. From 2008 on, it is a monument, closed for public and sadly waiting for its reincarnation. Our main task was to revive stadium back to its roots. We created Sports Park Bezigrad (named after a district where the stadium is located in the city of Ljubljana). The park is meant for multifunctional sports intended not only for professionals, but also for locals and schools. Our first step was to invite schools and faculties to use it, because SLOfit study shows that Slovenian youth’s sport life is in regression. Here they have many reasons to hang out with friends, play some sports and emphasize healthy life.

The question was why use a new surface for sport if we have some in the surrounding area, but our opinion is that a Sports
Park Bezigrad is a unique building with multipurpose premises under one roof. And you cannot refuse such sport facilities, not even in a city like Ljubljana.
